E-books

The University Library offers e-books in cooperation with the ProQuest portal Ebook Central (EBC).

Before you can use Ebook Central, you need to create an account in the portal. The prerequisite for use is registration at the library.

Notes on the accessibility of EBC: The accessibility mode can be activated yourself via your screen reader (Accessibility Statement by EBC).

You may access the e-books via the library catalog from any device with an Internet connection.

The handouts for research and access to e-media can be found here:

FAQs e-books

How do I sign up to use EBC?

You use the direct link to the database Ebook Central (EBC) and create a „New Account“. Students please work with the Palucca Login (m.mustermann@student.palucca.eu)

What are the borrowing modalities?

EBC uses it via digital lending with Adobe Digital Editions. This means that the e-book can be borrowed for one week (7 days). This loan can be repeated as often as desired. After registering and selecting „Full Download“ the e-book will be available in your personal virtual bookshelf until the digital loan period expires. Due to a special copy protection (Digital Right Management=DRM) the file can then no longer be opened. In your virtual shelf, you can see at any time when the book „expired“.

Can I print or copy an entire e-book?

Printing: page by page or chapter; a maximum of 40% of an e-book per lending day – Copying/Saving: text and illustrations page per page; a total of up to 20% of the e-book per lending day; Download: is only possible with digital lending using Adobe Digital Editions (free of charge for Windows, not available for Linux). For use on Linuy systems only the chapter-by-chapter download is available

How do I order an e-book in EBC?

In the EBC portal, e-books relating to our collection area can be searched. The ones, that are not yet licensed have the status „Available on Request“ (marked in yellow). They can be read on screen up to 5 minutes. You can then request further use from the library via „Request“.
