The University Library offers it's users ebooks on the ProQuest portal Ebook Central (EBC). 

You can also access the ebooks via the library cataloge. Access is via Shibboleth authentication, you log in with the Palucca Account.

Notes on the accessibility of EBC: The accessibility mode can be activated yourself via your screen reader (Accessibility Statement by EBC).

You may access the ebooks via the library catalog from any device with an Internet connection. For a full download you need to install the Ebook Central Reader App (System requirements: Windows 10, macOS 10.15, iOS 14+, Android 13+).

How do I sign up to use Ebook Central?

For licensing reasons only students and teachers registered in the library are authorized to use Ebook Central (EBC). Authentication is done via Shibboleth (single sign-on); you log in with your Palucca Account (m.mustermann and password). You can adjust your language settings in the navigation bar at the top edge of the page under 'Settings' and select 'Language'.

What is the difference between downloading a chapter and downloading a book?

In EBC you are enabled to download individual pages and chapters as well as the entire book. When you download pages or chapters, you get a PDF file, that doesn't expire. You can search the text, and copy passages for use in your research, along with a citation in the format of your choice. The number of pages you can download shares the same allowance, as what you can print as PDF. To download the entire book you need to install the Ebook Central Reader App.

How can I download the entire book in the Ebook Central Reader App?

For full book downloads, you need the Ebook Central Reader app on your devices. Follow the instruction to install the app and receives a registration code – opens the app and enter the code and gain access to the book shelf – download the book to device and click „Read now“. This can be installed via the app store or directly (Windows/Mac). Users must log in with a 7-digit code from Ebook Central. After that, you can view the borrowed titles in 'My books' and usage in offline mode is possible within the borrowing period.
