Footnote: The Viennese art historian and dance publicist Helmut Ploebst has compiled nine portraits of modern performance artists who, at least in their theater and dance performances, refuse to be part of the popular spectacle, explains reviewer Lilo Weber. From festival to festival, Ploebst has traced Meg Stuart, Vera Mantero, Xavier Le Roy, Benoit Lachambre, Raimund Hoghe, Emio Graco, Joao Fiadeiro, Boris Charmatz and Jerome Bel in order to approach their new attempts at language - which can often be expressed in different forms of refusal, for example the "beautiful body" - in conversations and analyses. The result is a "dance history of the 20th century", a study of the zeitgeist and inevitably a first new canonization of the artists, Weber enthuses. She promises the reader to see the "new choreography staged in many photos, dazzling, iridescent, with breaks and fractures".
